Full Introduction
A “frenemy” is someone who can appear friendly but secretly holds negative feelings or intentions towards you. This term is used to describe people with whom you have a complex or ambiguous relationship, where there’s a mix of friendly behavior alongside underlying animosity or competition. However, the term may also be applied to the seven most important aspects of human existence: money, sex, power, love, purpose, eternality and enlightenment.
The universe is unalterably dual in nature. There is light and darkness, joy and misery, life and death. This duality is represented in all aspects of our existence.
Across cultures and civilizations, the eternal dance of duality finds expression in myth and legend. From the ancient wisdom of the Kabbalah, with its esoteric teachings on the Tree of Life and the Qliphoth, to the vibrant mythology of Hinduism, with its pantheon of gods and goddesses embodying the forces of creation and destruction, the perennial struggle between good and evil permeates the collective consciousness of humanity. It is a reminder that duality is not merely an abstract concept, but a lived reality, woven into the very fabric of our existence.
Consider money, for instance. While it serves as a medium of exchange and a facilitator of economic transactions, it can also be a source of greed, corruption, and inequality. Similarly, sex encompasses both intimacy and pleasure, as well as exploitation and manipulation.
Power can enable individuals to effect positive change or lead to oppression and tyranny. Love, often associated with warmth and connection, can also breed jealousy, possessiveness, and heartache. Purpose provides direction and fulfillment but can also lead to obsession and disillusionment.
Eternality, the concept of existence beyond earthly life, can inspire hope and faith, but it also confronts us with the fear of the unknown and the transient nature of life. Finally, enlightenment, the pursuit of spiritual awakening and understanding, can bring clarity and peace, but it also challenges us to confront our deepest fears and illusions.
The universe is indeed inherently dual, characterized by the interplay of opposing forces—light and darkness, joy and sorrow, creation and destruction. This duality exists in every aspect of our existence, shaping our experiences and perceptions in profound ways. By unveiling the frenemies within these fundamental aspects of human life, we can gain insight into the complexity and richness of our shared existence. It also means we can utilize our newfound knowledge to create profound change in our lives.
The spectrum of human emotions mirrors this cosmic dance of light and shadow. Joy, with its infectious exuberance, lifts the spirit and fills the heart with boundless warmth. Yet, lurking in the shadows of joy, lies the specter of misery, a haunting reminder of life’s transient nature and its capacity for sorrow. The human experience is a delicate balance between moments of ecstasy and bouts of anguish, each lending depth and poignancy to the other.
By shining a light on the frenemies within the fundamental aspects of human existence, we illuminate the path towards greater self-awareness and spiritual enlightenment. It is a journey of self-discovery and transformation, a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and its capacity for growth and transcendence. And as we navigate the labyrinth of duality, may we emerge wiser, stronger, and more compassionate beings, ready to embrace the fullness of our humanity and the richness of our shared existence.
In this book, we embark on a journey of exploration and discovery, delving deep into the labyrinthine corridors of human consciousness to unravel the mysteries of duality. Through seven main aspects of human existence—money, sex, power, love, purpose, eternality and enlightenment—we navigate the turbulent waters of the human experience, seeking to understand the forces that shape our lives and destinies.
The way of wisdom consists in seeing the frenemies and indeed the whole of existence in the light of this eternal duality because only through accepting this reality can we gain the poise and perspective necessary to achieve self-understanding and fulfill our individual destinies.
